I did it!
What a great feeling it was to eventually cross the finish line in 4 hours and 11 seconds.
The New York marathon was a massive event, thousands of people joined in to cheer on the 30,000+ runners including me. The atmosphere was amazing and the weather was perfect too.
I started well, sticking to 8 minute miles up until the 17th mile, at which point I started to stiffen up and had to walk for a while. I think it was the crowd that got me through, constant cheering from start to finish and over 70 bands playing along the way.
I would have loved to beat my 3:33 time which I did in London 3 years ago, but sadly due to the lack of training due to injury during September, I knew it wouldn't be a personal best.
Although painful, exhausting and down right stupid, I'd love to do it again!
I'm really pleased to have raised over £2000 for Macmillan cancer support, many many thanks to all of those who sponsored me - it's made me happy to think I did it for a great cause. I'm sure my Dad would have been proud of my achievement and I'm really pleased to have run it in his memory.
