LYMM FESTIVAL 26 JUNE - 6 JULY 2003
Planning is well in advance for the 2003 Lymm Festival, which promises
to provide many new experiences and sees the return of several old
favorites.
The Festival will launch off with the Street Fun and Food Fest,
on Thursday 26 June between 6 - 8.30pm. As usual we will be closing
the centre of the village to traffic and creating a huge street
cafe, with food vendors setting up stalls and serving tasters of
their specialities. There will be plenty of street entertainment
as well, including our own hugely popular Lymm Samba Band, and the
return of the Bread and Butter Theatre Company with a new show.
Other highlights of the festival include concerts by young instrumentalists
from Lymm and the new choir Lymm Young Voices. Also the launch of
the new Heritage Trail on Saturday 5th July, with a special family
activity to introduce the route, a major exhibition of Christening
robes and accessories along with a collection of Teddy Bears lent
by the young (and old) of Lymm.
There will also be the Lymm Hall Picnic, by kind permission of
the Cotterill family with entertainment from the Hilton Trio, and
Simply Soul. both of which have strong connections with the village.
Lymm High School are hosting an evening of Victorian Melodrama and
entertainment, where the audience are invited to attend in appropriate
costume. The High School is also involved in a collaborative venture
with the North Cheshire Concert Band, performing a dance piece called
'Ghosts'.
This year there is the first photography and creative writing
competition.
Both of these competitions will exhibit the results as part of the
Festival
and the prizes will be awarded during the course of the Festival
Week.
Says Festival Director Honor Giles "Each year I wonder how
the programme is going to come together, but there is always a wonderful
response from people wanting to take part. It makes it so rewarding
to be involved".
This year's Festival will provide its usual extensive programme
of concerts, drama, visual art, storytelling, folk and jazz, poetry
and prose. The organisers hope that the community and those in the
surrounding areas will take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy
a wide spectrum of entertainment all taking place in this delightful
village.
