Trigger Level now reached!

We have finally reached the trigger level set by BT to enable ADSL in Lymm.

The 400 person trigger level was reached on 8th January and now means BT must upgrade the Lymm Telephone exchange to allow fast broadband access in the Lymm area.

It is not yet known when the exchange will be enabled, however, we will let you know of the date when it is announced from BT.

Lymm Net is now in negotiations with a provider to offer a residential ADSL package to the people of Lymm.

More details on this service will be available soon.

ADSL Revolution - the future is here.
A new era in Internet access is about to begin. You might not yet be aware of it, but the dream of an ultra-high-speed link to the Internet is not 'somewhere around the corner'.. it is here now. The future is indeed, upon us.

Just imagine surfing as it ought to be, clicking on a Web link, and instead of having to drum your fingers whilst the pictures painfully download, it's right there. You've found a large file you want to download, click.. you've saved it to disk. No more having to log on to check your e-mail.. you're in a whole new world of communication where you're online and your mail is already waiting in your Inbox.

What we have here with ADSL, a new technology being rolled out in the UK, is broadband access to the Internet. Broadband means that much more efficient use is made of your telephone line. More data can be pushed through it. Connecting at speeds of 512, 1024, or 2048Kbps, it means that your connection will be approximately 10 - 40 times faster than the best of current modems, and what is more, that connection is always on. Now you don't have to wait whilst your modem dials out, just load up your browser and away you go.

The ultra-fast speeds open up an exciting era of opportunity. Starting with what is already available on the 'net, (CD quality sound, live radio and so on), we'll begin to see more and more examples of streaming video; live feeds from news agencies and Pop concerts, Theatre, TV and so on. Compare the dropouts and jerky video of today's modem connections with the smoothness of DVD and you'll get a taste of how it's going to be. Movie outlets will move to the Web and you'll be able to watch the film of your choice on your home computer. Your PC will become less and less the hum-drum computer in the corner of the room and more and more the centre of your communications and entertainment life.

What is ADSL?
ADSL, or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line technology is a means of transmitting digital information at high bandwidth down existing copper telephone cable. It is permanently 'switched on', unlike normal dialup access and is asymmetric in that it uses most of the available bandwidth downstream. The technology also supports analogue connection on the same line, which enables voice or fax calls to be made simultaneously.

This makes it ideal for Internet use. Extremely fast access without tying up your phone line. What's more, your phone line will work exactly as it did previously. You will be able to keep your existing phone number and continue to use Call waiting, Call return and Caller Display if you subscribe to these BT Select services.

Access to ADSL is available through a flat-rate subscription, meaning that you can be online for as long as you like without incurring extra phone charges. Your phone call charges are not included in this price and will be billed in the usual fashion.
